Frequently Asked Questions
- What is YoZombie?
- YoZombie is an on-demand gig work platform that connects local businesses with nearby gig workers. Businesses post a gig, set the pay rate, and a local worker accepts and shows up. YoZombie charges the business a flat fee — workers keep 100% of their pay.
- Does YoZombie take a commission from gig workers?
- No. YoZombie never takes a commission or percentage from worker pay. Workers keep 100% of what they earn. Standard Stripe payment processing fees may apply to payouts.
- How much does YoZombie cost for businesses?
- YoZombie charges businesses a flat fee per gig — $12 to $25 depending on the tier. No percentage markups and no agency fees.
- Can I use YoZombie to get help at home?
- Yes. YoZombie has a Personal side for homeowners and renters: post a fixed-price residential job — yard work, moving, hauling, garage or curbside cleanup — and a local worker handles it. You set one price up front, your exact address stays private until you accept a worker, and payment releases only after you confirm the work is done. See how it works for your home →
- Where is YoZombie available?
- YoZombie is currently launching in Maryland, with expansion planned for additional states through 2026, 2027, and 2028. Join the waitlist to be notified when we go live in your area.
- How is YoZombie different from TaskRabbit, Instawork, or temp agencies?
- Unlike TaskRabbit, Instawork, or traditional temp agencies, YoZombie charges the business a flat fee — not a percentage of worker pay. Workers keep more of what they earn, and businesses get same-day availability with predictable, agency-free pricing.
- Do businesses need to handle payroll for YoZombie workers?
- YoZombie does not employ workers or process payroll for them, and workers independently choose which gigs to accept. Whether any worker-classification, tax, or employment obligation applies depends on the actual relationship and applicable law — the responsibility of the posting business. Payment processes through the app when the gig is complete.
- How fast can a business find a gig worker?
- Businesses can post a gig in minutes. Nearby workers see the posting in real time and can accept immediately. YoZombie is designed specifically for same-day and short-notice help.
- What industries does YoZombie serve?
- Restaurants, food service, retail, events, hospitality, physical labor, and seasonal work. YoZombie is built for industries where you often need a reliable worker on short notice.
- How does the QR code check-in system work?
- When a worker arrives, the business displays a QR code. The worker scans it to start the gig. At the end, the business confirms completion at checkout — a checkout QR scan or Confirm Completion tap — which releases payment. Workers who arrive after the check-in window closes forfeit their pay and the business receives a full refund.
- What happens if a gig worker doesn't show up?
- If a worker fails to check in and the business confirms a no-show, the business receives a full refund. The worker receives no payment. No-show behavior affects a worker's standing on the platform.
- What is the "Trusted By" feature?
- "Trusted By" on a worker's profile shows how many businesses have added them to their roster. It's not a star rating — it's a real-world count of businesses that trusted that worker enough to want them back.
- Can businesses build a roster of go-to workers?
- Yes. After a successful gig, businesses can save a worker and send them direct private offers for future gigs — no need to search every time.
- What is the Zombie Army referral program?
- Workers earn $2 every time someone they referred to YoZombie completes a gig. Referral earnings accumulate for as long as the program is active and are paid out separately from gig pay.
- Is YoZombie available on Android?
- YoZombie is currently available on iOS only. Android support is planned for a future release. Join the waitlist to stay updated.
- How does payment work — is the money held securely?
- Yes. When a business posts a gig, the payment is processed through Stripe and stays in the Stripe payment flow. It's released to the worker only after the business confirms completion at checkout. If a gig is cancelled or the worker doesn't show, the business is refunded per the platform's cancellation policy.
Built by Someone Who Actually Did the Work
YoZombie was founded by Byron Bland, based in Annapolis, Maryland. Byron spent years doing gig work in the area — hauling, moving, local labor jobs — and kept running into the same problem: the platforms available were built around delivery and rideshare, not the kind of real, physical, local work he actually wanted to do.
He built YoZombie to fix that — for himself, and for the workers and businesses who feel the same gap. The goal has always been simple: more options, better pay, and more control for the people doing the work.
